Biography

Of German extraction, lived in Scotland before emigrating to New South Wales, then New Zealand.1840-44 managed the Weller Bros. whaling station in Otago. Settled in Wellington and had flour mill in Kaiwarra. Captain in militia, freemason, Justice of Peace, member of Settlers Association, committee member St Andrew`s Presbyterian Church, Wellington, director Wellington Steam Tramways Co, and from 1854 represented Wellington City on the Provincial Council, becoming Speaker and at times Deputy Superintendent.
